Bovine Trachea Extract Powder
(Purified Bovine Cartilage)
Clear cream/yellowish powder with a content of Chondroitin Sulfate of 20 to 23 % with HPLC method using Sigma Chondroitin Sulfate Standard C-8529. This powder is elaborated from argentine bovine trachea purchased on approved slaughterhouses, with BSE free official certification. Chondroitin is a long chain of amino sugars that is derived from bovine trachea. Chondroitin sulfate helps promote water retention in the cartilage, which is essential for shock absorption. Chondroitin sulfate has been reported to maintain joint viscosity, stimulate the mechanisms for cartilage repair, and inhibit enzymes that break down cartilage (Medical Letters on Drug Therapy, 1997). Evidence supports that oral intake of Chondroitin sulfate reduces the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as indomethacin and ibuprofen that are widely used for pain management and swelling (Alternative Medicine Review, 1998). Chondroitin sulfate, which is found naturally in the body, is an important and major component of the cartilage surrounding the joints. In the early stages of joint disease there are changes in chondroitin sulfate that affect the response of the chondrocytes (cells that form cartilage) to damage in the cartilage that surrounds the joints. Chondroitin Sulfate, when taken orally, provides the necessary compounds for the formation of healthy tissue that otherwise may not be available due to the joint disease.
